Gorge Metropark

Similarly to Ledges trail, Gorge metropark was forged by receding glaciers that left towering rocky outcrops in their wake. It is close to Cleveland and Akron, making it an easy destination in Ohio.

I first hiked gorge trail (marked with the white circle) last summer and it remains one of my favorite NE Ohio trails.

The trail initially takes you by the Cuyahoga river, offering some pretty views of the dam. However you soon leave the water and head up into rocky terrain. The path winds you through mazes like mini slot canyons and rich green forest.

the trail is pretty well-marked
The trial invites you to climb into and among the rocks.

Due to the fact that you will be climbing through the rocks, the park map warns that this section of the trail is "difficult" and "primitive." However, a person of average fitness should not find this trail physically demanding. There is a way to bypass this section of the trail if you would like.

Trail Info:

Length: Short (1.8 miles, can be combined with nearby trails)
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Best time of year: All seasons, colors in fall
Fees: None
What to pack: Shoes you can climb over rocks in, water

Until next time, carry on my wild hikers
